The movie had received criticism for lack of diversity and for casting white actors as the deities instead of actors with Middle Eastern descent. More importantly, there are some melee action scenes between the gods, Set, and Horus. It's like watching a blend of '300' and Sam Worthington's 'Clash of the Titans.' If that's not enough, there's also the fact that the gods summon giant creatures to obey commands and destroy Egyptian structures. It also features Chadwick Boseman as Thoth the god of Knowledge, Elodie Yung as Hathor, the goddess of sky and motherhood, Courtney Eaton as Zaya, and Geoffrey Rush as the famous Egyptian deity Ra.įor those who are fans of Butler and his epic film '300,' this should be one fantasy film to look forward to. The movie is directed by 'The Crow's' Alex Proyas. Together, the god and mortal work together to fight the merciless god Set, who has brought down the once peaceful Egyptian empire into chaos and conflict. He gets some form of assistance from Egypt's patron god, Horus, played by 'Game of Thrones'' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Summit has released a new Gods of Egypt trailer the upcoming action film stars Gerard Butler, Brenton Thwaites, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Elodie Yung. 'Gods of Egypt' follows the story of the mortal hero named Bek, played by Brenton Thwaites, who is on a mission to protect the world and save his true love. Gerard Butler is back with an epic film but this time he plays the God of Darkness, Set, who says, 'Bow before me, or die.' Will this movie be impressive or not? It remains to be seen but somehow it does feature some of the greatest faces in the industry today.

Gods of Egypt hits theaters on February 26th, 2016.Lionsgate may have released trailers of the upcoming epic fantasy film, 'Gods of Egypt,' ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, but the movie's TV spot in the actual big game showcased an even more powerful trailer featuring monstrous dragons and more action scenes of god vs. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the epic final confrontation. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful and vengeful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. The survival of mankind hangs in the balance as an unexpected mortal hero Bek (Brenton Thwaites) undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world.

Here’s the official plot synopsis of Gods of Egypt, a movie starring an-all white cast plus one black guy: If we’re lucky, someone will cross this over with the Clash of the Titans franchise. Lots of other things happen too, and it’s all quite colorful, which is appreciated, and very CGI-heavy, which is less than desirable. That being said, this movie has Mike Banning from Olympus Has Fallen (Gerard Butler) ripping out the eyes of Jaime “The Kingslayer” Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), a plot point in the trailer immediately followed-up by a thief stealing a glass eye from a God just to impress a girl.

Why is this? We’re not sure, but it probably has to do with some form of institutionalized racism, though Chadwick Boseman does appear for a quick second, at least. The marketing campaign for Gods of Egypt got off to a rocky start, to say the least.The first character posters were, to be frank, ugly, and the messy first trailer wasn't much better. In Hollywood’s version of Egypt, there are few characters portrayed by actors actually from Egypt, or any part of the world that is not located in either the United Kingdom or America.
